What’s the policy about this subject?
The policy is the same on all language versions, and our policy is the following: we do not allow it or prohibit it. It doesn’t matter if the extension makes adjustments, it won’t get official approval.
However, it is fine when there is a discussion about it on the forum.
Why did the developers make this choice?
There’s no time to keep checking everything and because players may also expect help from us when something goes wrong with a certain extension.
Which factors play part in a policy change?
The opinion of the lead community managers and probably a part of the developers. It isn’t possible to get in touch with them to discuss the policy, but feedback from the community is of course passed on through the community managers.
Is it allowed to promote a subject on the forum that is neither allowed nor prohibited?
It’s fine when there is a discussion about the subject on the forum.
My personal suggestion:
We work on this forum (very hard), this forum right here, on a petition with well-founded arguments why we want to change the policy.
You can make the following choices:
1) A petition that asks for an exception of the rules: your browser extension getting checked and assessed by the developers (a one time exception). When rejected you receive a list of adjustments you’ll need to make to get the extension allowed.
2) A petition that asks a change in the policy about browser extensions. People who create a browser extension can send in a request to their support team to check the extension and eventually get permission or get rejected. This would apply on all future projects. We can also expand it to other projects but I’m not aware if any other project except the browser extensions can be legally allowed. (my knowledge isn’t big enough in that branch)
When we made our choice, we are going to write a very well written essay and when we are finished, when we all agree we can’t make it better in any way, when we added all well-founded arguments and there’s no way to make our statement better. Then we are going to start translating the document to ALL community languages so they can hear everyone’s voice.
When the translation work is done, the petition will get posted on the fora on a chosen day and hour.
The voice of a big, committed community is strong.
